Electron correlation and spin density wave order in iron pnictides.

We study the correlation effects on the electronic structure, orbital and spin density wave (SDW) order in Fe pnictides. Using the multiorbital Hubbard model and Gutzwiller projection, we show that correlation effects are essential to stabilize the metallic SDW phase for the intermediate correlation strengths appropriate for pnictides. We find that the ordered moments depend sensitively on Hund...

Spin-state crossover model for the magnetism of iron pnictides.

We propose a minimal model describing magnetic behavior of Fe-based superconductors. The key ingredient of the model is a dynamical mixing of quasidegenerate spin states of Fe(2+) ion by intersite electron hoppings, resulting in an effective local spin S(eff). The moments S(eff) tend to form singlet pairs and may condense into a spin nematic phase due to the emergent biquadratic exchange coupli...

Spin excitations in the excitonic spin-density-wave state of the iron pnictides

Motivated by the iron pnictides, we examine the spin excitations in an itinerant antiferromagnet where a spin-density wave SDW originates from an excitonic instability of nested electronlike and holelike Fermi pockets. Using the random-phase approximation, we derive the Dyson equation for the transverse susceptibility in the excitonic SDW state. The Dyson equation is solved for two different tw...
